A traditional yurt (from the Turkic languages) or ger (Mongolian) is a portable, round tent covered with skins or felt and used as a dwelling by nomads in the steppes of Central Asia. The roof structure is often self-supporting, but large yurts may have interior posts supporting the crown.
A yurt is made up of a round lattice-type panel and a series of “rafters” connecting to a center ring. The entire structure is then covered with a strong, weather-proof material. The completed structure is wind-resistant, weather-resistant, and cozy.
